Intro to the Readings
Proverbs 31:10-31Psalm 1James 3:13-4:3, 7-8aMark 9:30-37

We listen to a reading from Proverbs today – a reading about wisdom – sophia – about a woman – a wife – a mother.
Psalm One is a communal wisdom hymn that reminds us of the Torah - the Law.
From the Letter of James we will hear about heavenly wisdom. We also hear about resisting evil.
In the Gospel we listen as the Lord speaks about his betrayal and death. As well the disciples had argued about which one of them was the greatest, and a child is put among them.

Let us listen seeking wisdom.
Let us listen resisting evil.
Let us listen with a child among us.

Introduction - Proper 23 B - 2015-09-06 - Pent 15

Prov 22:1-2, 8-9, 22-23PS 125James 2:1-10, 14-17Mark 7:24-37
Intro to the Readings

Today we have the “Stir up” Collect, and every now and again we need to be stirred up.
We listen to Solomon’s wisdom in Proverbs today about riches and poor, in a world with refugees not so far away.
Psalm 125 is a communal lament. Globally we lament the lose of all life. We lament those who died hoping to live freely.
James also writes about the rich and the poor and reminds us to love your neighbour as yourself.
In the Gospel it is a Syrophoenician mother who begs the Lord, and they speak about children, food, dogs, the children’s crumbs, and a child.

Let us hear God’s Word.
Let us break bread together stirred to feed God’s children.
