Introduction - Lent 1 - 20120226

Genesis 9:8-17;Psalm 25:1-9 – 1 Peter 3:18-22 – Mark 1:9-15
Intro to the Readings
As we begin forty days of fasting we are reminded in a reading from Genesis of Noah on the Ark for forty days. After Noah those days God established a covenant with Noah and his descendants giving them the rainbow as a sign.
Psalm 25 affirms the goodness of the Lord to those who keep God’s covenant.
From First Peter we listen as the author writes of the righteous one who suffers for the unrighteous.
From Saint Mark’s Gospel we listen as the Lord is baptized, the Father speaks to him, and he is driven into the wilderness.

Let us listen and affirm the Good News of the covenant and baptism in our own lives.

Introduction - Epiphany 5 - 20120205

Isa 40:21-31 – PS 147:1-12, 21c1 Cor 9:16-23Mark 1:29-39
Intro to the Readings
Listen to what the Prophet Isaiah is saying. He says listen to the Holy One. Do not be presumptuous of the Holy One. Kings and princes have come to nothing.
To the Corinthians the Apostle Paul tells of his obligation to proclaim the Gospel, and the efforts he makes that some might be saved.
As we listen to the proclamation of the Gospel we hear that Simon’s mother-in-law is healed, and many others are healed.
Let us listen to the Holy One, and let us also be healed that we may be made whole.
