Proper 1 - Baptism of the Lord
Isaiah 43:1-7 – Psalm 29 – Acts 8:14-17 – Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
Intro to the Readings
The prophet Isaiah prophesies that the Lord God will bring together, and to himself, all whom God has called. Those called shall be ransomed for God’s glory.
Psalm 29 is all about the glory of the Lord God. Secondary to God’s glory is the blessing of peace given to the people.
In the Acts of the Apostles, the Acts of the Holy Spirit, the Samaritans – the Samaritans – receive the Holy Spirit.
In the Gospel John the Baptist tells us what he is doing and what the Messiah will do when he comes.
John baptized “all the people” and Jesus also was baptized.
Listen as the Spirit comes in baptism and falls upon God’s people.
