Song 2:8-13 – PS 45:1-2, 7-10 – James 1:17-27 – Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
Our first reading today is from the Song of Songs – it is the only time we read from this short book attributed to Solomon. It is romantic and spiritual all in one breath.
Psalm 45 is a wedding psalm – more romance and spiritual implications in song.
The reading from James address the beloved, “my beloved.” The reading speak about the perfect gifts that the Father of lights gives. We are encouraged to be doers of the word above all.
From Saint Mark’s Gospel we listen as the Lord Jesus speaks of those who honour with their lips, but not their hearts.
Listen my beloved – honour in word and in deed – honour with your hearts in love.
Honour your wife – your husband – honour those you love – honour your Creator.
