Introduction - Proper 11 - 2012-06-17

1 Sam 15:34-16:13 – Psalm 20 – 2 Cor 5:6-10 (11-13), 14-17 – Mark 4:26-34
Intro to the Readings

On Father’s Day we listen to the Scared Page, and we hear about father, but not what we might expect.
We listen to a reading from First Samuel, much of which is not PG-13, as David is chosen and anointed as King of Israel.
Psalm 20, considered a royal Psalm, acclaims that “the Lord gives victory to his anointed.”
The Apostle writing to the Corinthians speaks of a new point of view, that the old view has passed and in Christ we have a new view. And we are a new creation in Christ.
In the Gospel from Saint Mark, we listen as the Lord Jesus tells two parables about the Kingdom of God, that which is royal. One about planting seeds and the second about a mustard seed.

Listen to the Royal and Holy Word of God, and let it be planted with in you.
