Introduction to the Readings - Proper 3 / 20110123

Isaiah 9:1-4 – Psalm 27:1, 5-13 – 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 – Matthew 4:12-23
Intro to the Readings

Today we listen as Isaiah prophesies of those “who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” These words ring out each time we listen to Handel’s Messiah.
Psalm 27 echoes ones trust in the Lord – the Lord is my light – my salvation.
To the Corinthians the Apostle appeals for unity among those who are brothers and sisters in Christ.
In the Gospel we listen as John the Baptist is arrested. We hear again that those “who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” The Lord proclaims repentance and calls disciples.

Let us listen to the proclamation and receive the light of Christ.
