Introduction to the Readings - Advent 2

Isa 11:1-10; PS 72:1-7, 18-19 – Rom 15:4-13 – Matt 3:1-12
Intro to the Readings
The reading from the Prophet Isaiah is filled with images of the Righteous One – fearful images – and images of peace.
Psalm 72 is a prayer for a righteous ruler. A ruler who will rule as the King’s Son.
As the Apostle writes to the Christians in Rome he quotes from today’s reading from Isaiah. The Apostle speaks of peace and harmony that with one voice we may glorify God.
In the Gospel listen as John the Baptist calls many from the root to be cleansed from sin in baptism.

Receive the mercy of the Righteous One.
Live in harmony with your sister and brother
With one voice glorify the coming King.
