Introduction to the Readings - Proper 27 / Oct 2-8

Lam 1:1-6 – Psa 137 – 2Tim 1:1-14 – Lk 17:5-10
Intro to the Readings

The reading from Lamentations is a cry for the holy city – don’t be surprised – it is a cry for the Church.

Psalm 137 is a lament of the people – they lament they are so far from their holy city. It is also a Psalm of vengeance and not politically correct!

The Apostle writes to Timothy about the faith that is within him, a faith that was first in his grandmother, and mother. But now is his.

In the Gospel the Apostles ask the Lord to increase their faith. Listen to the illustration about a mulberry tree and one about a servant.

In our tears let us pray for mercy for all peoples.
Be faithful to the position God has given you.
As servants of the Lord let us listen to the Word of the Lord for us today.
