Readings - Introduction - Pentecost

Acts 2:1-21 – Gen11:1-9 Or Rom 8:14-17 – Psalm 104:25-35, 37b – John 14:8-17 (25-27)
Intro to the Readings

The reading from Acts is the story of Pentecost following the Ascension. The first Pentecost of the Church.
With the reading from Acts we hear from:*
from Genesis – the story of the Tower of Babel. It is the story of the languages of the world.
from Romans – that we have been adopted into the Family of God.
Psalm 104 is a hymn with strong association with the creation story of Genesis, and with Acts as God’s Spirit is sent to renew the face of the earth – to renew God’s people.
In the Gospel we listen as Philip asks Jesus to show him the “Father.” In response Jesus tells him he will send another Advocate – the Spirit of truth.
Again the Lord speaks of love, and says “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”
Let us listen and receive the spirit of truth, and live in the love of Christ.

* (These are optional readings. Acts is to be read with one of the other readings for Pentecost.)
